Designing the Future Through Place
No two regions are the same.
Every landscape tells a different story.
Every catchment, coastline, community and ecosystem holds different opportunities, challenges and wisdom.
Rather than designing solutions from afar, AotearoaNZ2125 is committed to place-based futures thinking — bringing communities together to imagine and shape resilient futures grounded in local realities.
Through regional design sessions, cross-sector conversations and collaborative workshops, we explore how nature-positive futures can emerge from the places people know and care for most.
These conversations span:
- freshwater systems
- coastal resilience
- regenerative food and fibre
- biodiversity restoration
- housing and settlement patterns
- transport and energy systems
- community resilience
Alongside these conversations, we are exploring opportunities for living labs and demonstration projects — real-world examples of what future resilience could look like.
Because transformation happens most powerfully when people can see, experience and participate in it.
Project Priorities
- Regional design and discussion sessions
- Catchment-scale resilience planning
- Community co-design
- Living lab demonstration projects
- Nature-positive regional futures
- Place-based systems innovation
